Newsletter – March 2015
Apologies for the delay, but life continues to be busy and throw up hurdles.
The orphanage has been completed, incorporating an office for the charity, a
nursary for small children, accomodation for 20 boys and 20 girls, a
community clinic and a library. It has a borehole, thanks to two kind donations
but still requires solar panels, furniture, kitchen items and a gas cooker before
opening. The children living in the orphanage will also need sponsorship. The
micro-finance is on hold until the building is completed, but will recommence
shortly.
There have been devestating floods in the village during the last few months
and the orphanage has been utilized as a refugee centre with Mphatakizo
organising food parcels, seed and assistance with temporary shelters.
Our sponsored children, Niko and Chipirilo, continue to work hard with good
results, however we continue to have issues with our other kids. All part and
parcel with dealing with damaged kids.
As usual, we had a community meal at Christmas time. This year we were able
to have the meal at the orphanage with over 500 people.
The orphanage was recently visited with the District Commissoner and
Minister for Social Welfare. The visit went well and they just require some
additional perimeter fencing and some paperwork to be done. The community
is already providing burnt bricks for the fence.
Volunteer accomodation has been completed in the form of Regina and Bob’s
house. The first shipment of books for the library arrived and are currently in
storage at the orphanage.
The orphanage gardens have been set up, and are going well. The livestock
have mixed results: chickens are going well but the goats are not. The toilet
blocks have been completed.
Thank you for your continued love and suppor
