Madalitso Family Centre and Orphanage

Child Sponsorship
All representatives of Mphatikizo are volunteers. Our charity's policy is that every dollar of your donation is used thoughtfully and progressively, with 95% of funds reaching Malawi (there are unavoidable administrative running costs that must be met in New Zealand). We work cooperatively with Malawian chiefs and local families to ensure that we are building a future for people in a way that they will eventually be able to sustain their own needs.
Listed below are the foundation projects of Mphatikizo. Some of these projects are ideal for your much valued one-off donation, however, there are other projects that due to local conditions, require a longer-term commitment. If you have no preference, funds will be allocated as local needs dictate.
International donations can be made via "Give a Little - Telecom Foundation" by clicking the donate button or if you prefer, direct to our bank account if you are located in New Zealand, details can be found by clicking the contact us button.
If you're serious about making the long term commitment these children deserve, a minimum of 5 years, please contact us.
We currently have three children who need immediate help, two girls, Chipilro and Sylvia and a boy called Niko.
DONATION RANGE: $300 P/A for schooling (5 YR MINIMUM)
Our costs with the orphanage are ongoing. Although our ultimate goal is to have the centre as sustainable as possible, at this stage of development we still have many set-up requirements and systems to be established. If you would like to make a one-off donation, then our foundation project is a great option.
DONATION RANGE: ANY WELCOME
We will be teaching the local community about the importance of composting and taking care of the soil, which has been severely depleted over the last few decades through forced use of GM crops and their accompanying fertilisers. Additionally, we will endeavour where feasible to return to heritage seed types to keep costs down for local farmers and growers. The continual annual outlay for more GM seeds puts further economic strain on the local communities as well as producing far lower yields at harvest than traditional seed types.
DONATION RANGE: ANY WELCOME
DONATION RANGE: $100 PER BUSINESS LOAN
Thanks to the generosity of the Cameron Family, this has been our first project in the community and, to date, a huge success. In May 2011, we sent $1,000 NZD to Nsolomba village in Chiradzulu where, between Regina, her grandmother and the Chief, 10 people were selected to receive a loan of $100 NZD each with which to begin a small business. The loan is for a 12 month period, with a total of $110 NZD being repaid at the end of each year Each person signs a letter of contract to Mphatikizo witnessed by the chief; for this they receive the loan, business advice and support from Mphatikizo and in return they will repay interest of $10 NZD as well as providing a mentoring role to the following group receiving assistance.
This project remains a success today.
